According to Women's Health, a recent study published in Free Radical Biology and Medicine explored the benefits of beet juice on blood pressure. The study included adults in their 60s and 70s, finding that daily consumption of nitrate-rich beet juice led to noticeable reductions in blood pressure.

Researchers discovered that beet juice alters the oral microbiome, with older participants experiencing changes in bacteria that may contribute to blood pressure reduction. The study highlights how nitrates in beets convert to compounds beneficial for heart health.

Besides lowering blood pressure, beets offer other health benefits. They are rich in fiber, antioxidants, folate, and potassium, all of which support heart and overall health. While promising, beet juice should not replace prescribed medications. Seniors interested in this approach should discuss it with their healthcare provider.
